Cindy Dao Scholarship
Ms. Cindy Dao is the mother of former head coach and Encore swimmer Victor Nguyen. She immigrated from Vietnam with her family at a young age and since coming to the Americas, she has been involved in education for 30 years. Learning fluent English and going to college was something that Cindy and all 5 of her siblings emphasized. Since she graduated from San Jose State (‘85), she has ran a daycare, tutoring center, and returned to school to pursue her masters.
Ms. Cindy Dao has three children, Victor, Henry, and Ricky, who she has encouraged to live their lives to the fullest. Some experiences that she wanted them to have included joining the Boy Scouts of America, participating in various team sports, and attending additional academic activities outside of school.
Victor was enrolled in Scouts at the age of 8 and was a member for 10 years. Through his career, he has serviced more than 500 volunteer hours, worked on dozens of projects that impacted his local community, and learned the importance of teaching his younger fellow scouts the essentials to succeed as a Scout themselves. Victor has also played many sports from T-ball, to football, soccer, water polo, and yes… even swimming.
Cindy and Victor have created and continue the Cindy Dao Scholarship to help current high school seniors continue their higher education. Eligible applicants are current high school seniors that have swam the last 4 consecutive years with Encore. For more information on how to apply, please reach out to a board member or email Encore by filling out the "contact us" section on the home page.
